The Food Expert:

Our common project is the result of a casual meeting between a truffle hunter and a naturalist on the beautiful hills of the Langhe, Roero and Monferrato, UNESCO World Heritage Site.

In our renewed vision, the “Trifulau” (truffle hunter in Piedmontese language) is an ecologist who respects the woods and the rules of research; on the other hand, the naturalist can make his tangible contribution to the maintenance of biodiversity and natural environments, which are increasingly threatened by human activities. We will also give you useful advice on hiking activities in the Langhe to make your walks in the Langhe unforgettable.

Cancellation policy: all bookings for the walk through the Langhe woods can be cancelled within 3 days from the start date of the experience. Read the Terms and Conditions.

Our common project is the result of a casual meeting between a truffle hunter and a naturalist on the beautiful hills of the Langhe, Roero and Monferrato, UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Our talk takes place on a Sunday in the spring of 2015 in one of the rare woods still present in the lower Langa: the truffle hunter was with his two dogs to check the condition of the woods after the long winter, while the naturalist was there to identify some plants and analyse the soil to recreate a truffle bed.

We immediately discover to share ideas and thoughts on truffle, especially on how to protect and enhance it. In our renewed vision, which we like to define as “truffle era 2.0”, the “Trifulau” (truffle hunter in Piedmontese language) is an ecologist who respects the woods and the rules of research; on the other hand, the naturalist can make his tangible contribution to the maintenance of biodiversity and natural environments, which are increasingly threatened by human activities.

We have been carrying out new projects to understand truffle, its culture and tradition: teaching, recovering old truffle beds and growing new truffle-generating plants.

When I got into Barolo – a picturesque commune surrounded with rolling hills and vineyards – I really didn’t expect anything. I met the local truffle hunter and Buk (his dog) for a walk in the fields. He knows his “hunting grounds” well and he is knowledgeable about the woods, the soils and the whole ecosystem that support growth of truffles. He is passionate about truffles and wishes to share his philosophy about preserving and safeguarding truffles. Buk thinks truffle hunting is a game. He is trained to detect truffles even if they could be hidden in the grounds. During the walk, Buk managed to dig out some black winter truffles which became his snacks. The walk was a simple joy – a lovely afternoon out in the open, in the nature, with freshness not just in the air, but in the forest, in the woods and in the soils.
