What to expect
A tour with a visceral link to the most authentic Sicily, where literature, gastronomic traditions and art come together in a single itinerant experience through the streets of Racalmuto.
A stroll through the past that will allow you to discover glimpses of the Baroque in the birthplace of the great writer Leonardo Sciascia and to taste typical local foods: from traditional sweets to local cold cuts and cheeses, and Sicilian nougat with its irresistible aroma and flavour.
1. Guided walking tour: history, taralli and nougat!
You will meet your local guide in front of Pasticceria Capitano, a historic “confectionery jewellery shop” in Racalmuto, located in the town square. During an initial welcome tasting, you will sample the famous Tarallo racalmutese, a traditional sweet made with sugar and lemon, unique in all of Sicily.
Continue your cultural itinerary to discover the history of the area. Strolling through the narrow streets of the centre, among the baroque balconies and scenes of daily life, we will visit the main tourist attractions of the town up to the Sanctuary of Maria Santissima del Monte, the centre of the religiousness of the racalmutese people.
From there the tour continues to Leonardo Sciascia’s House-Museum, where part of the writer’s “treasure” is kept, including original furniture, books and other personal items.
Finally, we reach Racalmuto’s main street, where there is a bronze statue dedicated to the poet. After a selfie at natural height, we will introduce you to one of the most sought-after delicacies of the Sicilian gastronomic tradition: nougat or “La Cubaita”.
You will visit a historic workshop to watch the most fascinating cooking show ever staged in Sicily. Here a local artisan will show you how Sicilian nougat is made, delighting your palate with a final tasting.
2. Sicilian lunch at the local trattoria
At the end of the walking tour, you will enjoy lunch with typical local specialities at a pretty trattoria in the historic centre of the town, paired with excellent house wine and water.

Over time, although engaged in other activities, we have never been able to resist the call of this magical place, so much that in 2010 we decided to enlarge the property and create a farmhouse immersed in rural Sicily. An ancient farmhouse dating back to the late eighteenth century, immersed in the quiet of a timeless landscape surrounded by olive trees, carob trees and prickly pears. A magical place where you can find the balance between body and mind, let yourself be guided to the discovery of ancient traditions and savour simple and genuine food.
