Relax among olive trees & prickly pears in Sicily

Come and spend a weekend between taste and relaxation in western Sicily, in the province of Agrigento, along the “Road of the Writers” – recently inaugurated to pay homage to the hometowns of the greatest Italian and European writers of the 20th century, from Sciascia to Pirandello, Camilleri and Tomasi di Lampedusa.

You will be welcome in our magnificent resort in the lonely countryside of Racalmuto, an estate of about 10 hectares and an ancient farmhouse of the late eighteenth century immersed in the quiet of a timeless landscape among olive trees, carob trees and prickly pears. A magical place where you can rediscover the balance between body and mind, where you can let yourself be guided in the discovery of ancient traditions and taste simple and genuine foods.

Day 1: Welcome to the Farm and Resort

Arrival and accommodation in the afternoon. The family atmosphere will make you feel immediately at home, part of the surrounding reality and of the family that gravitates around you.

After your first meeting with the farm owners and your Superior room, you are invited to discover the surroundings. You will be accompanied by the typical Sicilian “coffa” that you will find in your room. Inside, scissors and gardening gloves, together with a map of the entire estate, will guide you on a pleasant walk through the garden. You will be encouraged to pick, between one tree and another, any seasonal fruit you find around you.

After savouring the organic goodness, Giulia, the owner of the place, will take you to the large expanse of olive trees, the same one you were greeted by on your arrival. Thanks to her story, you will discover the history of the family, the origins of the olive grove and the different types of cultivars from which high-quality extra virgin olive oil is produced.

You will then discover everything you need to know about the fantastic world of extra virgin olive oil, taste the types of Sicilian olive oil produced in the farm, learn how to read a label correctly and learn about the methods to be adopted for the correct preservation of olive oil.

Finally, you will be guided to the pool bar area to enjoy the most beautiful Sicilian sunsets in total privacy, in the shade of carob, fig and olive trees, sipping an excellent local wine and tasting a selection of typical local foods, home-made preserves and the inevitable bread and olive oil.

Visited: Racalmuto
Included: Guided tour of the estate, olive oil tasting course, aperitif/dinner by the pool, accommodation and breakfast

Day 2: Massage and taste by the pool

No good morning is complete without a hearty breakfast buffet full of local delicacies, homemade jams and freshly picked fruit. From sweet to savoury, a wide variety of homemade products will give you the right boost to start your day, or maybe even weigh you down so much that you have to get back on your feet… No problem, our guests love slow mornings!

You can relax outside in the peace and quiet of the countryside, enjoy the natural surroundings and take advantage of the sunshine between a dip in the pool and a session in the jacuzzi.

As soon as you are ready, our physiotherapist will give you a relaxing, therapeutic, aesthetic or sports massage. Accompanied by the chirping of birds and the sound of nature, expert hands will help you to regenerate body and mind, improve your psychophysical state and immerse you fully in the oasis of peace that surrounds you.

In the late afternoon/early evening, a walk in the historic centre of Racalmuto is the best suggestion to not move too much and at the same time visit the delightful village of Leonardo Sciascia. Right in the main square, along Corso Garibaldi and past the statue of the poet, there is a lovely restaurant in a very attractive location.
We suggest stopping there for dinner and trying the famous “paesana” pizza made with fresh tomatoes, anchovies, pecorino cheese and black olives, made unique by a dough from ancient Sicilian grains.

Visited: Racalmuto
Included: Couple’s massage, aperitif, accommodation and breakfast

Day 3: Excursions out of town

If you enjoyed the evening’s pizza and would like to take with you a valuable Sicilian recipe for perfect homemade dough, our chef Annalisa and her homemade pizza lesson is for you!

On request, it is possible to organise the pizza lesson in the Estate or in Favara at the chef’s home, about 20 km from the resort. It is also possible to cook typical local dishes and choose the purely Sicilian version of the cooking class: you will learn about the ancient recipes of the grandmothers who carry on the Sicilian culinary tradition, listen to their story and taste those simple and genuine flavours that only home cooking can provide.

If you would like to visit the Renaissance town of Favara, you can take part in a gastronomic tour led by Annalisa in the afternoon. You will meet the locals, visit the main historical attractions, admire the town’s greatest monuments, discover its artistic and culinary culture. Pastry workshops, museums, historical buildings and modern cultural areas are waiting to be told, along with the incomparable cannolo experience at the end of the itinerary.

For those who want to take advantage of the estate’s strategic location and discover the pure nature of its surroundings, we have a proposal for you in true Sicilian style: horse riding through the Grotte hills. If you are a nature lover and want to experience a unique adventure to remember, this is definitely an experience not to be missed. You will admire incredible landscapes and breathtaking views on horseback, equipped with all the necessary precautions and guided by a professional instructor.

There will be no shortage of stops to capture the moments on the hilltops and tales, mixed with legends of the attractions visited.

The history of our family has been linked to these lands for three generations since grandfather Alfonso, an ancient oil merchant, bought the first hectares in the early 1960s and fulfilled his dream of planting an olive grove.

Over time, although engaged in other activities, we have never been able to resist the call of this magical place, so much that in 2010 we decided to enlarge the property and create a farmhouse immersed in rural Sicily. An ancient farmhouse dating back to the late eighteenth century, immersed in the quiet of a timeless landscape surrounded by olive trees, carob trees and prickly pears. A magical place where you can find the balance between body and mind, let yourself be guided to the discovery of ancient traditions and savour simple and genuine food.

It is here that we make our Sicilian extra virgin olive oil PGI, cold extracted from carefully selected olives, harvested by hand and milled within 12 hours.

The farmer, olive oil sommelier, will guide you to discover this extraordinary gift of land and human work, expressing conviviality and culture in a liquid state.
