Day 1: Welcome to Sannio

Arrival in the afternoon by own means and accommodation at the Hotel Restaurant ***S, near a spa town surrounded by greenery: Telese Terme. Immediately we start to discover the territory!

Once you have chosen your e-bike, it will be wonderful to immerse yourself in the wonderful Grassano Park, the pride of the area, where you can practice outdoor sports, canoeing, relax and regenerate your senses.

The park of the Terme di Telese, a wide green oasis, sees its sulphurous waters as the protagonists, as well as the ancient Jacobelli spa, opened in the second half of the 19th century. With its ancient thermal pools, it is a delightful place, rich in history and with pleasant walks. Picturesque views and splendid sunsets are reflected instead in the waters of Lake Telese.

A delicious 3-course dinner awaits you on your return to the hotel.

The places described above can also be reached by own means and not exclusively by e-bike.

Visited: Telese Terme
Included: ½ day e-Bike, 3-course dinner with mineral water and wine (hotel selection), accommodation and breakfast

Day 2: Discover Sant'Agata de' Goti

After the Italian breakfast, you will devote the morning to an independent visit of Sant’Agata de’ Goti, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy.

Strolling through the alleys of this village perched on the tuff, a location chosen by many directors for films and short films, will catapult you into an era far removed from the present day. The old shop signs, the arcades, the craftsmen’s workshops… you will lose track of time!

There are many churches you will come across in Sant’Agata de’ Goti; the story of the Redentoriste Monastery, where you will find something out of our time, the “Wheel of the Exposed”, is particularly interesting. In the past it was customary to put unwanted children in this wheel.

At the end of the independent visit of the village, and perhaps after a stop at the Bar Normanno, famous for its “Mela allo Strega” ice-cream (Sant’Agata is the producer of the Annurca PDO apple, while the typical Strega liqueur, famous throughout the world, is produced in the Sanniti capital), waiting for you are the women of an all-female family-run winery with a tradition that has lasted for five centuries. It was here, in 1979, that the world’s first Falanghina was bottled. After a guided tour of the historic cellars, you will stop to taste the winery’s wines, paired with typical local foods.

In the afternoon, you can continue to visit the area independently. We recommend that you visit the majestic Carolinian Aqueduct, a work of engineering by Vanvitelli that still brings water to the Royal Palace of Caserta, and the monumental complex of the San Leucio Silk Factory. This is a rare and hidden gem: restored old looms, tools for processing silk… a true path of industrial archaeology. Silks for the world’s most important palaces were produced here.

Dinner at the hotel.

Visited: Sant’Agata De’ Goti
Included: Admission and guided tour of the winery with wine tasting, 3-course dinner at the hotel with mineral water and hotel (wine selection), accommodation and breakfast

Day 3: Land of knowledge & flavours

Sannio is not a single town, it is a series of small villages nestled in nature, between valleys and hills, such as San Lorenzello where expert craftsmen take meticulous care of the details of their ceramics (subject to availability of the workshop and advance booking, it is possible to organise a guided tour of a ceramics workshop) and Cerreto Sannita, known as the town of churches where the bishopric is located.

Further on we find Cusano Mutri, a real jewel of Italian medieval art. For the more courageous there are the Gole di Caccaviola: hikers, harnessed with equipment, throw themselves into small canyons.

From Cusano Mutri you can proceed to Pietraroja to discover the dinosaur Ciro. It was the first dinosaur to be discovered in Italy, and one of the smallest dinosaurs in the world.

But Pietraroja is also famous for its local prosciutto. The prosciutteria in Pietraroja is a place lost in time. On a guided tour, you will be able to understand how prosciutto is made, immerse yourself in the ancient techniques of processing and curing by visiting the adjoining museum. And, last but not least, you will take part in a unique lunch-tasting: the prosciutteria in fact has a traditional wood-fired kitchen on view.

Dinner on your own

Visited: Pietraroja
Included: Admission and guided tour of the prosciutteria with adjoining museum, lunch-tasting with local dishes, accommodation and breakfast

Day 4: A journey through history

After breakfast it is time to set off for Benevento, where you will meet your tour guide who will take you through the streets of this wonderful city, an open-air museum thanks to its thousand-year history.

Walking in Benevento is like jumping from one era to another: from Trajan’s Arch to the Hortus Conclusus, from the Roman Theatre to the Church of Santa Sofia (UNESCO World Heritage Site) and much more.

But there is a halo of mystery surrounding the city of Benevento and it is the one linked to the witches, or rather the Janare, and their rituals. In short, Benevento really has a lot to tell!

Once you have said goodbye to your guide, the day is free.

In the afternoon, before returning home, you may choose to continue on your own to Pietrelcina, the birthplace of Saint Pio, which can be visited in a couple of hours. Alternatively, you could visit the Zoo delle Maitine, a few kilometres from Benevento, with an area of around 4 hectares housing around 400 animals.

Another option is San Marco de’ Cavoti, a “sweet” village famous for its Croccantino, a shell of fine dark chocolate with a heart of almonds, hazelnuts and sugar.
