1. Farm tour

We will begin the experience with a visit to the pistachio grove. We’ll explain the different stages of Pistacchio di Bronte PDO and Slow Food Presidium processing: planting the trees, pruning and harvesting. In addition to pistachio cultivation, you will observe the lava flows on the north-western slope of Mount Etna. You will also admire Simeto river, the most important watercourse in Sicily in terms of the size of its basin.

Afterwards, we will taste together our famous Bronte pistachio products: arancini with pistachio, pistachio pizza and cannoli with pistachio cream (1 piece for each type).

2. Bronte

After this tasty stop at the farm, you will visit the enchanting historic centre of Bronte with your tour guide. You’ll discover that the town was founded by Charles V in 1535 and that it develops between the Mother Church and the Sanctuary of the Annunziata, the patron saint of the town.

Your guide will tell you that Bronte hosted many arbèreshe communities in the 16th century, while in the Bourbon era the presence of the Real Collegio Capizzi gave it great prestige. You will learn more about the yoke represented by the English presence, who in fact exercised feudal rights with the Nelson’s Ducea.

Bronte also offers important historical insights related to the Risorgimento with the Bronte massacre, which took place in August 1860 during the Expedition of the Thousand. You will visit with the tourist guide the following places:

pistacchio bronte

We are two farmers and the custodians of one of the most famous and appreciated Sicilian foods: the Pistacchio di Bronte PDO and Slow Food Presidium.

Our farm is located in Bronte, a small village on the slopes of Mount Etna. It was born from the fusion of two farms handed down from generations. Our pistachio trees grow in plots of wild, rocky terrain.

Bronte Pistachio is created from the perfect fusion between the lava soil, rich in substances and minerals, and the pistachio tree. It is a unique fruit, prized for its taste, aroma, colour and quality.

We offer a tour of the north-western slope of Mount Etna to travellers wishing to discover, at a different pace from commercial tourism, a lesser-known but probably more authentic Sicily than the classic destinations.

Bronte Pistachio

This variety of pistachio grows in the rugged terrain around Bronte, on the slopes of Mount Etna in Sicily. It has got a bright emerald green colour and an intense aroma.
The trees are not fertilised or irrigated. They are treated and pruned very little. Bronte pistachio is harvested every two years. In the “unloading” years, farmers remove dry branches and buds so that the tree can release all its energy in the following season.
