Day 1: Explore the Valchiavenna
The Valchiavenna is characterized by the presence of “crotti”, natural caves formed by the rocks that slid along the sides of the mountains due to post-glacial landslides. On a guided tasting in a typical “crotto”, you will discover Valtellina wines. Afterwards, traditional lunch in a “crotto-restaurant” in Chiavenna.
Before continuing to your accommodation in Tirano, I recommend that you take a pleasant walk along the stream to the Acquafraggia waterfalls, mentioned by Leonardo da Vinci.

Day 2: Valtellina wine & dishes
Tirano is a town to be discovered at a slow pace, the views from the Church of Santa Perpetua and from the Castellaccio are truly breathtaking. The landscape is characterized by terraces where the vines produce full-bodied wines that you will get to know during a visit to a local producer. At lunch, you can finally taste the true pizzoccheri, as you are close to Teglio, the cradle of this traditional dish.
The capital of the valley is Sondrio, a small town where it is pleasant to get lost among the squares, the “stua”, the alleys of the rural district of Scarpatetti, up to the Masegra Castle.

Day 3: Charming Val di Mello
The Val di Mello is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful valleys. It can be reached on a pleasant walk from the village of San Martino through a fairytale landscape. Here you will find mountain huts that provide a tasty gastronomic experience.
On your way back from the Val di Mello, you absolutely have to stop at a historic shop in Morbegno to buy Bitto. Explore the back room where a surprising sequence of vaults, columns and beehive cells wind through the cellars that preserve the wheels of Bitto cheese, tasty Salami, Valtellina Wine and the Perfumed Grappas.

Day 4: The magic of a Mountain Hut
Surrounded by the incredible panorama of the Alpine peaks, you can enjoy breathtaking views in perfect harmony with nature. In summer you can enjoy pleasant walks. In winter, you can have a guided snowshoe hike. During your stay at a mountain hut, the local dishes will brighten up a unique and unmissable experience, and at night, you will feel like touching the sky with your fingers!
