Review
We had a beautiful and amazing experience on this tour
Even before we started the communication was excellent, helping out in anyway possible to get to the train station and meet our truffle hunter.
This is when we jumped in the car and had a meet and greet, up close with our expert dogs for the day. We are dog lovers and they had no issue climbing all over me and wanting heaps of pats and cuddles (but you can sit in the front if you need some space).
Our truffle hunter spoke really good English, he is very passionate about his work and loves to have a chat while travelling.
Once arriving at the spot it was time for truffle hunting, which is quite relaxing and fun watching the dogs working. Part of the trick with hunting truffles is trying to get the truffle before the dogs have a highly prized snack (their breath smells amazing though)
Remember truffles are a natural product and there is a chance that you won’t find any, but we had beginners luck and had a great day with a good handful of truffles.
(From myself) please respect the truffle hunters spot and not disclose this location to others, it takes many years work to reach this point that he is generously sharing with you.
After a good few hours (because I could hunt all day), we headed to a local house for the most amazing lunch experience imaginable. First up was antipasto with a range of delicious fresh home garden produce, fresh bread, tasty homemade wine and the truffles hunted earlier.
This is followed by pasta (gnocchetti) with more sliced truffle on top and this was a really stand out dish for me. Also had fried egg with even more truffles.
(Did I mention there’s no shortage of truffles for your lunch, they’re incredibly generous)
And then if you still have any space left there’s was a desert of creamy delicious homemade tiramisu (yum).
Finally after a good chat and coffee to finish, it was time to say goodbye to the gorgeous dogs and new friends. The hunter drops you back at the station and helps with getting a ticket back into Rome.
This was an amazing experience, value for money tour that I can’t recommend highly enough. If you love truffles and or dogs, and amazing italian home cooking, this is for you!
We enjoyed the truffle hunting experience near Rome! It was a very unique and memorable, with adorable dogs and successful truffle discoveries. The truffle hunter’s expertise have added to the enjoyment of the day. The food was very good.
