Day 1: Cedars and Chili Pepper

The northern part of the Tyrrhenian coast, known as the Riviera dei Cedri, owes its name to the cedar, the ancient fruit to which a museum is dedicated in Santa Maria del Cedro, here it is possible to buy delicacies made with cedar. The nearby village of Maierà has dedicated a museum to chilli pepper, it is open in summer and it offers spicy surprises to taste or buy as presents.

Day 2: Wine and villages in the Pollino National Park

The clay soils on the southern slopes of the Pollino allow the cultivation of vines that produce very good wines that you must know by visiting a local producer. This land is dotted with charming villages such as Morano Calabro, Civita, the land of the Seven Wonders with the Devil’s Bridge and the Kodra houses, and Altomonte, on a hill overlooking the surrounding valley.

Day 3: Licorice Passion

The discovery of the Rossano Liquorice Museum and the adjacent factory is unmissable: engravings, documents, books, vintage photos but also agricultural tools, everyday objects and splendid ancient clothes witness the life of a family, which enhances the underground branches of the licorice plants that grow spontaneously on the Ionian coast. In Rossano, the Cathedral and the Diocesan Museum are also worth a visit, in the museum you can see the Purple Code, a gold manuscript of the Gospels of Matthew and Mark.

Day 4: Intense flavours of Calabria

Discover perhaps the most famous area of Calabria, for Calabrian food and more! In Pizzo visit the small church of Piedigrotta and enjoy the typical “truffle” ice cream, continue to Zungri where you will explore the cave-houses and taste some typical products such as the red onion of Tropea and the n’duja of Spilinga. After a dip in the crystal clear waters of Capo Vaticano, end the day in Tropea, walking through its alleys that open out like balconies overlooking the sea.

Day 5: Breathtaking views

The name of Scilla recalls myths and legends, exploring this village will not be disappointing: visit the Ruffo Castle, a fortification located on a rocky spur overlooking the Strait, and the ancient and suggestive district of Chianalea with the fishermen’s houses directly on the sea. Reach Reggio Calabria where you will get to know other traditional Calabrian food specialties based on local products such as bergamot and saffron and you will be able to admire the majestic beauty of the Riace Bronzes.

Day 6: Treasure troves of art and beauty

In a rugged territory made of rocks and torrents rises Gerace, a jewel of art and history. Discover the various churches and noble palaces up to the Bombarde walk to admire a breathtaking view of the Ionian coast. Passing through the alleys you will notice workshops and artisan shops that keep alive the ancient traditions of loom weaving and ceramics, finally you will be able to appreciate the local gastronomic delights. Tradition is still the protagonist in San Floro, the ancient capital of silk, where a small group of young people rebuilt the mulberry grove and resumed the craft production of silk as it was done in the old days.

Day 7: The Orange Coast

In the inland visit Santa Severina and its Castle which dominates the entire valley from the imposing hill, then continue along the coast towards Capo Colonna and Le Castella where stands the Aragonese Manor, which was Hannibal’s refuge after the defeat suffered by the Romans. You will appreciate Calabrian cuisine during lunch at a farmhouse on the Orange Coast and the beautiful beaches of Soverato, Copanello di Staletti, Caminia or Pietragrande.
