What to expect

Agnone is an artistic, historical and cultural town thanks to its historic centre full of churches with majestic portals, elegant palaces, charming alleys and picturesque views. A real open air museum that can fascinate and amaze visitors.

1. Agnone

We will take a guided tour of the heart of the town to discover the historic centre, which preserves the testimony of the glorious past, of a noble city of the kingdom of Naples. This town has always been important for handcraft and the working of metals. The pride of this tradition is represented by the presence in the town of the oldest bell foundry in the world: the Pontifical “Marinelli” Foundry.

2. Agnone bells

In this ancient foundry, where the touch of art distinguishes each bell without giving in to modern standardising techniques, bells are made for the most prestigious churches in the world. The bells of Agnone are handmade, it is the hand of man that makes the “models”. It guides the stream of liquefied bronze from the wood-fired furnace to the “moulds” buried in the casting pit.

The peculiarity of this foundry is its family character with traditions dating back to the dawn of time, and the passage of centuries has left the processing phases absolutely unchanged. This is how the Agnone bells were created, rare masterpieces of an artistic craftsmanship that has remained unchanged since the Middle Ages.

3. Confetti factory and cheese

During the tour, don’t forget a “gourmet” stop at the Carosella artisan pastry & candy shop to sample all sorts of delicacies.

Agnone is also the home of cheese and dairy products so a visit to a well known dairy can not be missed. This will be a unique experience for authentic connoisseurs! The tour starts with the visit to the historical cellar of the dairy and to the tufa caves where cheese is aged.

The tasting menu includes: seasoned cheese with jam, bread, “crostini” with ricotta cheese, caprese with small mozzarella and Pachino tomatoes, ricotta cream with chocolate chips and amaretti, a glass of Tintilia wine from Molise.

4. Pietrabbondante

After having had refreshments, the guided tour of Pietrabbondante can begin starting from the archaeological site of the “Sannita”  temple – theatre dating back to the II century B.C.. It represents the most important monument of the Samnite world. The site, which is perfectly preserved, consists of a theatre and a temple with two service buildings next to it.
