Aglianico del Vulture

Welcome to our wine cellar! We will tell you the story of our family, which has owned the winery since the end of the 19th century. You will learn the stages of the Aglianico winemaking process, the ageing of our wine, bottling and labelling.

We will continue the experience in our tasting room, a cellar dug in natural tufa caves where there is an old “palmento” with a cross in relief. It is a wide and shallow tank, with walls carved into the impermeable rock, that was traditionally used to crush the grapes and for the fermentation of must in southern Italy.

In this historic location, you will taste some specialities from Basilicata such as durum wheat bread made from the wheat that we grow in the “masseria”, caciocavallo podolico cheese and local sausages, all paired with our Aglianico del Vulture DOC.

The Food Expert: the history of our winery dates back to the beginning of the 19th century, when the founder decided to buy a “masseria”, a farm house with several hectares of land near Rapolla, a town that is located in the province of Potenza on the slopes of Mount Vulture, an ancient extinct volcano.

A territory rich in nature, but also in history: in 1856, the famous “Sarcophagus of Rapolla” was found in the land that is currently owned by our family and it is now displayed in the National Museum inside the Castle of Melfi.

The history of our winery dates back to the beginning of the 19th century, when the founder decided to buy a “masseria”, a farm house with several hectares of land near Rapolla, a town that is located in the province of Potenza on the slopes of Mount Vulture, an ancient extinct volcano.

Over the years, the land has always been used for cereal farming: wheat, oats and barley. In 2012 our family made an important decision: to enhance the characteristics of the Aglianico del Vulture grape variety.

Understanding its value and great potential, we purchased a thirty-year-old vineyard and a wine cellar dug in natural tufa caves, where we take care of the whole winemaking process from harvesting to the ageing of wine in order to produce high-quality Aglianico del Vulture DOC and to represent our extraordinary territory at its best.

Aglianico del Vulture

The Aglianico del Vulture is a red wine obtained from the vinification of the Aglianico grape variety, grown in the Vulture in the north-western part of Basilicata. The Aglianico is considered one of the greatest red wines in Italy and it is often called the “Barolo of the South”.
