Vermentino and Sangiovese of Liguria

We will welcome you to our winery in Castelnuovo Magra, where we will take you to visit the vineyards and the wine cellar.

We will tell you the story of our family and of this territory, characterised by a long wine tradition. The vineyards, about 10 hectares, are located in the DOC Colli di Luni area and they all share a favourable exposure and proximity to the Ligurian Sea. Our grapes – Sangiovese and Vermentino – are ancient, precious and maintain strong bonds with the local tradition.

You will learn the main winemaking techniques that we use in the winery. We will explain how we limit the manipulations as much as possible, in order to produce high-quality wines and enhance the grapes of our territory.

Later, in our tasting room inside the winery with a view on Castelnuovo Magra and on the sea in the distance, we will taste the four wines of our production: two types of Vermentino wine, a rosé wine from Sangiovese and Syrah grapes and a red wine from Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet grapes. We will pair them with local products such as Ligurian Focaccia, “crostini” (small pieces of toasted bread) with Genoese Pesto and a small selection of cheeses.

The Expert Valeria: the winery was founded in the late 1970s by the happy intuition of my grandfather Francesco. From the small Sicilian village of Salemi, he moved to Liguria and bought a piece of land in Castelnuovo Magra, above the ancient city of Luni, founded by the Romans in 177 BC near the mouth of the river Magra, where Liguria and Tuscany meet. A place with a millenarian tradition and an extraordinary wine vocation, of which as early as 77 AD Pliny the Elder wrote in the Naturalis Historia “the wine of Luni has the palm among those of Etruria”.

Each wine tells a story, our Vermentino describes ours very well: tradition, passion and a careful look into the future merge together and every year allow us to talk about ourselves through a glass.

Valeria

The winery was founded in the late 1970s by the happy intuition of my grandfather Francesco.

Our story begins at that moment, when Francesco, aware of the winemaking potential of the area, decides to plant the first Vermentino grapes and to build what is still today our wine cellar. Over the years, thanks to the careful guidance of my father Piero, oenologist of the winery, we started to buy more plots of land between Liguria and Tuscany and in 2018 we inaugurated our tasting room.

The vineyards, about 10 hectares, are located in the DOC Colli di Luni area and extend between Fosdinovo (MS), Sarzana (SP) and Castelnuovo Magra (SP). Our grapes – Sangiovese and Vermentino – are ancient, precious and maintain strong bonds with the local tradition. The vineyards are located at different altitudes, ranging from 100 to 250 metres above sea level, and they all share a favourable exposure and proximity to the Ligurian Sea.

Each wine tells a story, our Vermentino describes ours very well: tradition, passion and a careful look into the future merge together and every year allow us to talk about ourselves through a glass.
